Hello! My name is Tony Covert and this is my wife, Tammara Covert. We are both 26 years old, and are new sailboat owners. It is our goal to cruise the world for a year or more before we settle down and have children and document the experience.
I have been in the Navy for six years now and I am currently stationed in Everett, WA. on board the USS Momsen (DDG 92.) I have just under four years left in the Navy. On the ship I work as a radar technician and operator (fire Controlman.)
My beautiful wife, Tammara, has been working in the medical field for last five years. She is patiently waiting for me to finish the rest of my time in the Navy. 😉
While we both aspire to start a family someday, we have decided to do some traveling together and grow in our marriage before we do so. Though there may be many ways to accomplish this goal, the cheapest and most beneficial way (in our eyes) was to travel via sailboat (thanks Nate for the introduction.) The idea of living aboard a sailing vessel and cruising the world on it was definitely intimidating at first, but after reading many books and other blogs of people who weren’t too dissimilar to us we decided that we would jump in head first and…
On June 03, 2011 we purchased our first sailboat, The Bravado. She is a 1979, 40′ Islander designed by Doug Peterson. She is now moored in the Port of Everett, 12th ST Marina.
We looked at close to twenty boats before we made our decision to purchase her. You can look at her specs on the specs page.
In this blog, our goal is to document any challenges and experiences we have on board Bravado, as we have found the information found on other blog pages very helpful.
